  • Three Trucks Ready for Delivery - States Have Until Friday at 4pm ET

Over 4,500 people have signed the Pledge to End Hunger in less than two weeks, with 1,500 of those signatures coming in just the last 48 hours. Your collective efforts to raise awareness for the issue of childhood hunger in America have helped fill three additional semi-trucks of Tyson Food products.

Now, it’s up to you to help us decide which three states will receive this much-needed fresh protein for children in need. On Friday, March 20, at 4pm ET, we will tally the pledges and the three states with the most people to sign The Pledge will each be selected to have a semi-truck load be delivered to a food bank in their community.

Because we have three trucks to give away, this is really a wide open opportunity. What are you waiting for you….rally your state!

You can use the tools provided in the “Rally Your State” section or create your own. Just start reaching out to the people you know to ask them to visit www.pledgetoendhunger.com, sign The Pledge, and share with their friends and family, too.

  • SXSW ‘09 Generates Greater Awareness; Tyson Foods Donates Fourth Truck

The South by Southwest 2009 (SXSW ‘09) Interactive Festival has come to a close. Almost no one could have anticipated that one of the most frequently discussed topics at this annual gathering of technology industry leaders would be childhood hunger. But it was, thanks to a number of high profile presenters and hard work of many different people.

With the army of people wearing Pledge to End Hunger stickers and public requests for support at Gary Vaynerchuk’s core conversation Q&A session, Chris Brogan’s two panel sessions, the Social Media for Social Good panel, Guy Kawasaki & Chris Anderson’s keynote presentation, and a high-profile blogging panel, we helped raise the issue of childhood hunger in America above the noise and to the attention of thousands of highly connected people.

While we fell short of our goal of 5,000 people to sign The Pledge by the end of SXSW, we did succeed in getting over 4,000 people to say they will help us end childhood hunger in America. Of these, 1,500 came in just the last 48 hours of SXSW.

“Our main goal was always to help raise awareness for childhood hunger in America,” shared Scott Henderson, campaign manager. “Even though we did not hit our signature goal, we far exceeded our goals for how prominent a part the Pledge to End Hunger played in this year’s SXSW.”

In recognition of this success and out of appreciation for our efforts, Tyson Foods has decided to donate the fourth semi-truck of food it had promised as part of the 5,000 pledge challenge.

“We are overwhelmed by everyone’s enthusiasm for helping us spread the word about the Pledge to End Hunger,” stated Ed Nicholson from Tyson Foods. “We couldn’t have been successful in breaking through the noise of SXSW without the hard work and effort of everyone who pitched in with their Twitter, Facebook, and personal requests for support.”

With three more semi-trucks of food to give away (in addition to the one already delivered to Austin), everyone’s energy and enthusiasm will now shift to rallying their communities to ensure their state is one of the top three states by Friday, March 20, at 4 pm ET.

  • Truck arrives in Austin; Need more to sign to send three more

On the morning of Monday, March 16, a Tyson Foods truck arrived at the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.  It contained 35,000 lbs (that’s 140,000 servings). Since the vast majority of food donations are carbohydrate-rich foods, a large influx of protein is rare and very welcome.

Thanks to the action of the first 1,000 people who signed the #HungerPledge, we were able to fill and deliver this truck. Since then, more people signing the #HungerPledge have helped us load two more trucks.

Now, we seek the help of nearly 3,500 people who have signed #HungerPledge to get us to the 5,000 mark by Tuesday, March 17, at noon. When we reach this goal, Tyson will donate a fourth truck. The three additional trucks will each be delivered to food banks in three states having the most pledges by Friday, March 20.

Can you help us by signing it and then sharing it?  560,000 kids are counting on you.
